On 21 January 2025, the Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, announced the opening of the West Coast Expressway Section 2 (WCE). This new section, spanning 7.2 kilometers, connects the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and Shah Alam Expressway (SAE). The new Section 2 of the West Coast Expressway significantly improves access to Port Klang. It also aims to reduce logistics costs, enabling faster delivery of goods. These developments enhance Malaysia’s international competitiveness and create new opportunities for businesses.

The infrastructure encourages investments in nearby industrial zones and ports. With increased activity in these areas, the project contributes to economic growth and job creation. The government anticipates that this expressway will act as a catalyst for regional development.

Section 2 follows the earlier completion of Section 1, which opened on 31 August 2024. That section reduced travel time between Shah Alam and Banting from one hour to 25 minutes. Now, with Section 2 operational, three out of the 11 planned sections remain under construction. The next segment, Section 3, is expected to open in 2025, further enhancing the connectivity of the WCE.

During the toll-free period, commuters and businesses can benefit from cost-effective travel. This initiative supports businesses that rely on efficient transportation while making daily commutes easier for residents.

The completion of the West Coast Expressway will eventually provide a faster, more reliable route for all road users. With each new section, the expressway brings Malaysia closer to better regional connectivity and economic prosperity.

This milestone highlights the importance of continuous infrastructure development for a nation’s progress. As the project moves forward, it promises lasting benefits for Malaysia’s transportation network.
