The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has announced a delay in the enforcement of mandatory SIRIM certification for engine oils in Malaysia. Initially slated to begin this month, the new enforcement date is now October 1, 2025.

The decision follows input from stakeholders across the automotive industry, many of whom requested more time to prepare for compliance with the Malaysian Standard (MS) requirements. Once enforced, all engine oils sold in the market must be SIRIM-certified to ensure quality, authenticity, and safety. Failure to comply could result in fines or legal action.

๐Ÿงพ Why SIRIM Certification for Engine Oil Matters

The upcoming mandatory SIRIM certification for engine oil is a critical step toward removing fake and low-quality lubricants from the automotive market. Low quality and fake products can severely harm engine performance and reduce vehicle safety.

By October 2025, all engine oils sold or used in workshops must be certified under Malaysian Standards (MS) and verified by SIRIM. Retailers or workshops failing to comply could face heavy penalties.
