A large-scale syndicate involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit or fake engine oil has been dismantled in a joint operation by Bukit Aman police and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). The bust took place on April 29, 2025, following a two-month investigation.

The authorities conducted simultaneous raids at three premises located in Kepong (Kuala Lumpur), Ara Damansara, and Subang (Selangor). A total of 13 individuals — including 7 foreign workers, 4 local men, and 2 local women — were arrested for suspected involvement in the illegal operation.

What Was Found

According to Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Azri of Bukit Aman’s Internal Security & Public Order Department, the syndicate had been operating for at least two years. During the raids, police seized:

• Unbranded engine oil in 1L to 4L plastic bottles
• Machines used for transferring oil into containers
• Fake brand labels and packaging materials

These counterfeit products were being sold to the public, online and car service centre or workshops through social media platforms, often at prices significantly lower than the market rate — increasing the risk of their wide and unsuspected use.
